EasyMark lets you leave feedback directly on a student's submitted document. Select any passage in the report viewer, write a comment against it, and the note is anchored to that exact text — no more “see paragraph 3 on page 4”. Notes come in two kinds, and for an instructor the difference matters: a draft is yours alone, a comment is published and is what the student sees.
Where it lives: EasyMark is a mode of the report viewer, not a separate page. A student's report opens in the Analysis view (similarity, AI and grammar scores); the EasyMark toggle in the top-right switches to the annotation view and back, asking you to confirm each way.
Open EasyMark on a student submission
From a class, open an assignment and click a submission's Similarity percentage. The report opens in Analysis view; flip the EasyMark toggle to switch to the annotation view.

Open EasyMark on a student submission
Click the Similarity percentage to open the report in Analysis view, then switch the EasyMark toggle and confirm to reach the annotation view.
The built-in reference: the i button
Next to the EasyMark heading in the panel is a small i button, tooltipped How it Works!. It opens an About EasyMark panel written for your role — worth reading once, because it spells out exactly what the student does and does not see.

About EasyMark✕
EasyMark lets feedback live directly on the submitted document. Every note is tied to the exact passage it refers to, so nothing has to be described by page or paragraph number.
Leaving a note
Select any passage in the document and choose Add Comment. Type your feedback and press Save. What you type is stored as you go, so a note is never lost if you navigate away mid-sentence.
Drafts and published comments
A Draft is yours alone — a note in progress, shown with a dashed underline. A Comment is published, shown with a solid underline, and is what the student sees. Publish a draft with Save as comment on its card, or by pressing Save in the editor.
Changing which text a note points to
Drag the bubble at the end of a highlight to extend or shorten it, or the small bar at the start to move the other edge. To re-point a note somewhere else entirely, open it and use Change selection.
Reusing the same feedback
The copy button on a card carries that note's wording to another passage — useful when the same issue recurs.
Moving between the list and the document
Select a card to jump to its passage; select a highlight to open its note. The matching side briefly lights up.
Sending your comments to the student
Send notification emails the person who uploaded the paper a list of your published comments. Drafts and empty notes are never included, and it cannot be recalled once sent.

A comment is what the student sees: DrillBit's own reference is explicit — “a DRAFT is yours alone… a COMMENT is published… and is what the student sees”. Keep working notes as drafts, and publish only what you want the student to read.
Select a passage and write a comment
Drag across any text in the document. An Add Comment button appears next to your selection — click it to open the composer. The passage you selected is quoted at the top of the note so the feedback always keeps its context.

Select a passage and write a comment
Drag over the text, click Add Comment, and type your feedback. The note saves itself as a draft as soon as you start typing, so nothing is lost if you navigate away.
Drafts save themselves: You do not have to press Save to keep a draft. As soon as you type, DrillBit stores it and shows “Annotation draft has been created successfully”, after which the composer reads “Draft saved”. Comments are limited to 500 characters.
Publish a draft so the student can see it
Publishing a draft is what puts it in front of the student. In the EasyMark panel, click Save as comment on the note and confirm. The badge changes from DRAFT to COMMENT, and the highlight and pin in the document turn from amber to blue.

Publish a draft as a comment
Click Save as comment and confirm. The note becomes a published comment and its colour changes from amber to blue everywhere it appears.
Reuse a comment on another phrase
The first icon on a note card is not a clipboard copy — it is Use this comment on another phrase. Click it and the viewer arms a pick mode: choose any other passage and a second note is created with the same wording, anchored to the new text. It saves retyping the same feedback across a document.

Reuse a comment on another phrase
Click the copy icon, then select a different passage. A second note appears carrying the same wording, anchored to the new text.
Cancelling the pick: While the blue Select text for the copy bar is showing, the viewer is waiting for a passage. Click the × on the bar to leave reuse mode without creating anything.
Edit a note
Click the pencil on any note card to reopen it. The composer comes back with your existing text already in it, so you can correct a typo or add detail. Press Save and confirm to update the note.

The pencil reopens the note with its text already loaded. Change the wording, press Save, and confirm the update.
Save marks the note finished too: Pressing Save in the composer on a draft both stores your wording and flips it to a comment. To leave it sitting as a draft, close the composer instead — your text is already saved either way.
Move a note with Change selection
If a note ends up against the wrong sentence, you do not have to delete it and start again. Open the note and click Change selection: the viewer asks you to Select the new text, and the note moves to whatever you pick. The wording travels with it, and the old highlight disappears.

Move a note with Change selection
Change selection re-anchors an existing note. Pick the new passage, then Save — the note moves rather than multiplying.
Change selection moves, copy duplicates: Both ask you to pick a passage, and the coloured bar tells you which mode you are in. The amber “Select the new text” bar moves the note you opened — the note count stays the same. The blue “Select text for the copy” bar adds a second note carrying the same wording.
Send your comments to the student
Publishing a comment makes it visible on the student's report, but it does not tell them it is there. The Send notification button at the foot of the panel emails the student a list of your published comments. The number on the button is the count that will be sent — drafts and empty notes are never included.

Send your comments to the student
The button counts only published comments. Confirm, and DrillBit emails the address the paper was submitted with — the draft stays behind.
The email cannot be recalled: Once you confirm, DrillBit sends the message to the address the paper was submitted with and names that address in the confirmation. Check the count on the button and finish any draft you meant to publish before you send.
Delete a note and switch back to Analysis
Deleting a note asks for confirmation and removes the note along with its highlight and pin. Turning the EasyMark toggle off returns you to the Analysis view.

Delete a note and switch back to Analysis
Deleting removes the note, its highlight and its pin. Turning EasyMark off asks you to confirm before switching back to the Analysis view.
Draft vs comment at a glance
Both kinds of note live in the same panel and both count towards the note total. What separates them is who can see them.
Draft — amber:
Created the moment you start typing in the composer; no button press needed.
Yours alone — the student never sees a draft, and it is never included in a notification email.
Shows the DRAFT badge, an amber highlight on the passage, and an amber pin.
Carries a Save as comment button on its card.
Comment — blue:
Created either by clicking Save as comment on the note card, or by pressing Save in the composer — both ask you to confirm first.
This is what the student sees on their copy of the report.
Shows the COMMENT badge, a blue highlight on the passage, and a blue pin.
The Save as comment button disappears — the note is already published.
Either kind carries the same three icons on its card: reuse the wording on another phrase, edit it, or delete it.
Deleting is permanent: Removing a note deletes it along with its highlight and pin. There is no undo — if you only want to take a note out of circulation temporarily, edit its text instead.
