Changing your password

The menu entry sends a link to your inbox — it does not open a form in the app.

Changing Your Password

Change password is the fourth entry in the profile menu, below Account info. Open it from the arrow beside your name at the top right.

It does not open a form. Unlike some other DrillBit roles, the consortium’s Change password has no old-password / new-password / confirm boxes. Look at the small grey word underneath the menu entry — it says Email. Clicking it emails a reset link to your registered address, and the password is changed from that link, not from inside the app.

What happens

  1. Click the arrow beside your name, then Change password.
  2. A reset link is sent to the address shown as Username on Account info.
  3. Open the email from DrillBit and follow the link.
  4. Set the new password there, then sign in again with it.

From step 3 onward it is exactly the Forgot password flow. The only difference is where you started — from inside the account rather than from the login page.

You need access to the mailbox, even though you are already signed in. Being logged in is not enough to change the password, because the link is the thing that authorises it. If the registered address is a departed colleague’s or a mailbox nobody reads, change that first through Support — otherwise you can be locked out of your own password.
The new password has rules. At least 8 characters, with at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one number and one special character. The Submit button on the reset screen stays inert until all five are satisfied, which is usually why it appears not to work.

When to change it

Changing the consortium password does not affect any institution. Each institution’s admin has a separate account with its own password, and those are reset from the institution side or by you from the users list.
